How to Teach Children Praise and Worship
In the Christian religion, showing appropriate praise and worship is how believers pay homage to the Lord Jesus Christ. Each church service has dedicated time to glorifying God. It is an act of reverence and honor. Because it is such an important element in faith, it is up to parents, Sunday School leaders and church members to properly teach their children how they should participate in praise and worship and why it is so important to show God that they love him.

Encourage prayers of thanksgiving. Have the children make a list of everything they are thankful for. Some things they may list are family, friends, favorite foods, toys and games. Explain that God has given those favorite things to everyone, and it is important to thank him, just like it is important to thank other people when they give you something. Tell them that they should also thank God for their salvation because that is one of the most important gifts he could have given them.

Choose worshipful songs. Most churches dedicate a particular portion of their services to singing hymns and playing music. Some churches even have prayer bands, who will play these songs with their instruments the same way a rock band would play a gig. Make sure your children know how special these services are. Many praise songs are uplifting with a catchy beat. Choose songs that are easy to memorize. Some even have hand gestures or a special dance that accompany the tune. A few examples to use include "Lord I Lift Your Name On High," "This Little Light of Mine" and "I've Got the Joy Joy Joy." If your child has a favorite song that he likes to sing, sing it with him and clap right along with the tune.

Refer to your Bible. The Bible lays out what Christians are supposed to believe, and several verses allude to how believers are to praise and worship God. Have the children memorize Bible verses to help drive home the message. Use games to help the kids remember. You could also use games to help make learning more fun. Give prizes to children who can successfully recite their memory verses each week.

Lead by example. Children learn best from the people around them, so Sunday school teachers, parents and church members should practice what they preach and keep praise and worship themselves. Actively participating in the services shows that you know how important these values are.
