How to Delete & Reinstall an HP Printer

Your computer may fail to recognize your HP printer due to incompatibilities with new software. The print driver may also stop communicating with the printer, causing the printer to be inoperable. Delete and reinstall the Hewlett-Packard printer to resolve the issue and get your printer back up and running with your computer.

Instructions

  1. Remove the Printer

      Click "Start" and then click "Devices and Printers."

      Right-click the HP printer you wish to delete and click "Remove Device."

      Click "Yes" when a prompt asks if you really wish to remove the printer.

    Install the Printer

      Click "Start" and then click "Devices and Printers."

      Click "Add a printer." The Add Printer wizard launches.

      Click "Add a local printer."

      Select "Use an existing port" from the "Choose a printer port" window of the wizard and click "Next."

      Select "HP" as the manufacturer and select the specific model of your printer from the "Install the printer driver" window and click "Next."

      Click "Windows Update" or insert the printer installation CD if your printer isn't automatically listed in the print drivers available.

      Follow the on-screen prompts of the wizard to complete the printer installation. Click "Finish" when the installation and wizard are done.
