How to Draw a Horse Easily in Ten Minutes

How to Draw a Horse Easily in Ten Minutes thumbnail
By keeping it simple, drawing a horse can be done in minutes.

Horses still capture the imaginations of enthusiasts who appreciate the animal's sleek and streamlined musculature and inherent beauty. It's no surprise, then, that horses have been the subject of many art pieces, from ornate paintings to sculptures. But there's no need to go over the top or be overly detailed when drawing a horse; by paying attention to basic geometric shapes, one can easily draw a horse in a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a backward "J" shape in the left middle of your paper. This basic starting point serves as the basis for the horse's face, so draw it large enough to later add facial details --- but don't draw it too large, as you won't have enough room for the rest of the animal's body. Draw an upside down "V" shape that connects from the bottom of the face and juts downward to the right of the page to make the front of the horse's neck and torso.

    • 2

Draw a slightly sloping line slightly above the face that goes to the right of the page to create the top of the horse's back. If it helps, consult a picture of a horse and note the gradual curvature of a horse back when drawing this line. Add a curved line down from the back to make the hindquarters. This line essentially is shaped like an elongated "P."

    • 3

Draw the legs straight down from the body, which is accomplished by adding four pairs of lines jutting downward; again, consult a picture to get the exact curvature of the legs for realism's sake. Drawing all four legs --- two on the front and back closest to the viewer and two more that mirror those legs --- creates depth and makes the horse appear three-dimensional.

    • 4

Add the final details to fully flesh out the horse by drawing in triangles for the ears on top of the head and adding several sweeping lines to the backside to make the detail. Finally, draw a simple eye and a line for the mouth. Erase any overlapping lines, and trace over the drawing in black ink to make your art stand out on the page.
