How to Make Large Earthworms Come Out of the Ground
Night crawlers are large worms that can grow to lengths of around 10 inches. The worms gain their name because they emerge from the ground at night to feed on dead plant tissue, fungi, bacteria and nematodes. Night crawlers serve as an ideal fishing bait or a meal for your pet mice and frogs and are removed from the ground with less effort when they are on the surface. Bringing the big earthworms to the surface of the ground is accomplished with any large implement and a cooking pot. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wait until the sun goes down after a rainy day. This is when night crawlers will be more abundant. If it has not rained, saturate an area with a garden hose to simulate this environment.
-
2
Shove a large stick, a pitchfork, a long steel rod or anything that will effectively stand up on its own when it enters the ground. All of these implements will create vibrations in the ground, which is what draws the night crawlers to the surface.

3
Hit the top of the implement with the bottom of a cooking pot. Use an older pot that you don't mind dinging up as the process of bringing out the night crawlers may take several minutes.
-
4
Continue to hit the top of the pitchfork or wooden stick until you begin to see the night crawlers emerge. Use a flashlight to survey the ground.
-
5
Grab the earthworms with your hands and place them into a bucket. At this point you can either continue at this location or move to another in search of more night crawlers.
