There are two reason you’d need to reapply for unemployment benefits. The first is that you went off unemployment during your claim and you’re ready to reopen the claim. The other is that your previous unemployment claim is over and you have to start a new one during your new benefit year. Either way, the process is the same. You log into the state’s claim system, answer the application questions and then submit it to the state.
Read your state’s unemployment claimant handbook to verify that you meet the qualifications for your type of claim, whether refiling or reopening a claim.
Access either the state’s claims phone line or the state’s claims website to begin your application. Log in using your Social Security number and the PIN you created when you filed your first claim.
Answer the automated application questions using either your computer keyboard or the telephone keypad. Verify that the answers to all the questions are true to the best of your knowledge.
Submit your claim to the state for consideration. Do not disconnect the call or close your Internet browser until you receive a confirmation message verifying your claim has been submitted.
