Examine 2 cups of wheat berries carefully to discard any stones. Rinse the wheat berries under cool running water.

Pour the wheat berries into a heavy-bottom saucepan. Cover the berries with 7 cups of water. Add the salt to the water.

Bring the water to a boil. Reduce the heat and cover the wheat berries. Simmer the berries for one hour. Stir the berries occasionally to prevent burning.

Drain the wheat berries. Rinse the berries under lukewarm water. Serve the wheat berries while still hot.

Freeze the prepared wheat berries in a freezer container or bag for up to one month.
