How to Change the Tenant Records in a Lease Agreement

A lease agreement is a legally binding contract between the landlord and the tenants. Both parties need to agree to changing the tenant records in a lease agreement for that change to be binding. If you want to change the tenant records on your lease, consult your landlord and ask if he or she will agree to the change before you try to do it by yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Write any new tenant records for the lease. Make legible, handwritten changes on the old lease that already has been signed. Cross out any tenant records you want to get rid of in the lease.

    • 2

Sign your name and the day's date next to the changed tenant records in the lease.

    • 3

Have your landlord sign and date the changes.

    • 4

Make the same changes to your landlord's copy of the lease, sign and date the changes and have your landlord sign and date them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Leases and laws vary by jurisdiction, so read your lease and consult your local housing authority with questions.
