How to Upload a Movie
Millions of videos appear on major internet video sites such as YouTube, social networking sites like Facebook and personal blogs and websites. One of the reasons is because of the simple nature of the video upload process. YouTube and Facebook make it possible to upload a video in just a few minutes. People who choose to host their videos on a personal website or blog usually opt to upload the movie with an FTP client. Whatever your preference, the entire process takes just a few seconds to configure.

Upload a movie to YouTube. This Google owned video sharing site is one of the top 3 most visited websites on the Internet, according to Alexa. You must sign up for a free account to begin sharing videos. Once you log in to your account, you may click the "Upload" link located at the top of every YouTube page. Then you select the movie you wish to upload. YouTube lets you enter a description and other information to help other users find the video. You are allowed to upload a maximum of 10 videos at once. Each video must be smaller than 2 gigabytes and less than 15 minutes long.

Upload the video to Facebook. Alexa ranks Facebook as the second most visited site on the Internet. Every Facebook user is allowed to upload videos to their profiles. The option is located inside of the "Photos" section of your profile in the upper right-hand corner. Facebook allows videos from mobile devices, webcams or from your hard drive. The videos must be less than 1024 megabytes, roughly 1 gigabyte, and less than 20 minutes long. Facebook gives you plenty of options to share the video with your friends once the upload is complete.

Upload the movie via a free FTP client such as Filezilla (see Resources). File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is essentially a gateway between a website server and your home computer. Filezilla gives you a way to open the gateway and pass files from your home computer to the web server as if it were another folder on your hard drive. This method of uploading a movie is useful if you want to host the video on your own server. The user name and password details for your website's FTP server are readily available from your hosting provider.
