How to Run MapleStory More Smoothly

MapleStory is an online, two-dimensional game that places you in the role of brave adventurer, and challenges you to complete missions across a vast digital world. Depending on your computer setup, you may find that certain situations in MapleStory, such as large crowds or high monster populations, force your game to drag and negatively affect your play experience. While MapleStory does not have adjustable graphics settings, you can improve its performance by making a few tweaks to your computer.

  • Close all open programs except MapleStory. Everything you have open takes system resources away from the game, so shut down Web browsers, document editing software and music players. Check your system tray in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to spot anything running in the background.

  • Click the Start button, type "MSCONFIG" and press the Enter button. Click the "Startup" tab and disable any programs that may automatically load when you start your computer. These often cause system drag by wasting memory and processing resources if you are not currently using them.

  • Press the Start button and type "Disk Defragmenter." Run the defrag program and click "Defragment Disk." This repairs memory fragments and wipes other traces of old operations or programs.

  • Install and run a strong anti-virus, anti-malware, and anti-spyware software system. Malicious programs can dramatically reduce the performance of your computer. If your PC is infected, you may see an improvement once they are removed.

  • Upgrade your computer. If you cannot afford an entirely new PC, simply upgrading your RAM or video card can give you a dramatic increase in performance for a relatively low price.
