How to Reformat a MacBook Pro

Apple MacBook Pro computers have Intel processors and run the Mac OS X operating system. MacBook Pro computers are designed for the professional and enthusiast market, so their internal components are faster and the laptop is priced higher than the MacBook series. The Mac OS X operating system requires the use of the HFS+ filesystem because it supports permissions and resource forks. You can reformat a MacBook Pro so that Mac OS X can be reinstalled on a clean HFS+ filesystem.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the Mac OS X installation disc into the disc drive then restart the MacBook Pro.

    • 2

Press and hold the "C" key until the MacBook Pro begins to boot from the disc.

    • 3

      Click the "Next" arrow.

    • 4

Click the "Utilities" menu at the top of the screen then click "Disk Utility."

    • 5

Click the MacBook Pro's internal hard drive in the left column.

    • 6

      Click the "Partition" tab.

    • 7

Click "1 Partition" under "Volume Scheme."

    • 8

Click "Apply" then click "Partition." The MacBook Pro is now reformatted.
