Check the cable on your monitor.

No matter what model HP monitor you use, it pays to have some basic troubleshooting skills. HP monitors have a number of possible points of failure, from problems with the physical connection to the computer to issues with the input settings on the unit. Learning to identify those possible problems and take the steps necessary to correct them is the best way to get your monitor back in service.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut your computer down, and disconnect the monitor cable. Examine the connection on the monitor cable for bent pins. Carefully straighten any bent pins by inserting a small flat edge screwdriver next to the pin and moving it back into place.

    • 2

Check the monitor cable connection on the back of the monitor if your HP model uses a double-ended cable. Some HP monitors use solid cables that are permanently attached to the monitor, while others use thumbscrews to attach the cable to the back end of the monitor.

    • 3

Secure the thumbscrews, and attach the monitor cable to the back of your computer. Twist the thumbscrews until they cannot move any further.

    • 4

Power on the computer, and watch the monitor carefully. Press the power button on the monitor if the green light is not illuminated.

    • 5

Press the "Input" button on the front of the HP monitor. Some HP monitors have this button clearly labeled, while others do not. If you do not see an input button, simply press each of the buttons on the front of the monitor. The input button controls where the monitor looks for a signal, and pressing it can bring back the video on your computer.

    • 6

Push the menu button on the front of the HP monitor, and find the degauss option. Push the button to run the degauss process. This can restore a blurry monitor and bring it back to its proper proportions.
