An Easy Way to Make a Scarf
Scarves are endlessly useful accessories. Whether worn in the hair, around the neck or tied at the waist, scarves find a place in almost any ensemble. Scarves can be surprisingly expensive to buy though. Fortunately, because of their straightforward design you can create them at home. While you can buy fabric to make a scarf, there are also many things already in your home that you can recycle into this stylish accessory. With just a few tools and simple steps, you can begin stocking your wardrobe with an endless number of scarves.

1
Lay the t-shirt on a flat surface in front of you and spread it smooth to eliminate wrinkles and rolls.
-
2
Cut the shirt across the chest with scissors, just under the base of the sleeves, to create a large, flat tube.
-
-
3
Orient the shirt so that the cut portion is at the top and the bottom hem is closer to you. Measure roughly 1/3 the length of the shirt beginning from the top. Use a ruler if you prefer a precise measurement. Mark that point with a straight pin or a small piece of tape.
-
4
Cut 1 inch wide strips from the top end to the pin or tape marker to form a fringe. Keep both the front and back of the shirt in your scissors while you cut so you do both sides at once.
-
5
Cut the 1 inch wide fringe all the way across the shirt.
-
6
Hold a piece of fringe at the end where it attaches to the uncut shirt. Grip it tightly and pull from the other end of the fringe with your other hand. Stretching the strips this way causes them to roll, becoming fringe.
-
7
Pull each strip in this manner until all of the fringe pieces are sufficiently rolled and narrow.
-
8
Cut the shirt down the side, with the scissors, along one of the original seams.
-
9
Drape the scarf loosely around your neck a couple times to wear it.
