1
Decide on the event and the colors for the event. A child's birthday might have all the colors or the birthday child's favorite colors. A wedding might use white balloons or the accent colors.
-
2
Choose the balloon displays or decorations that will be needed for the event. Common displays and decorations include balloon arches, random balloons floating with decorating streamers, balloons attached to streamers and tissue papers and balloon decorations like centerpieces with balloons or balloon animals.

3
Calculate the number of balloons need and the colors as well as the other supplies such as a helium tank rental or PVC pipe or string. If you are doing a balloon arch, estimate the arch length using a measuring tape or ruler, then divide the length by the width of the balloons used. Remember that arches have either double or quadruple balloons tied together for each segment.
-
4
Make a helium arch by inflating two balloons and tying them together by their ties, a small rubberband or string, then attach it to kite string with a weight on one end. Keep attaching balloon pairs and attach a weight on the other end. The helium filled balloons will create the arch.
-
5
Inflate balloons with helium and attach pretty streamers and ribbons for a balloon ceiling with streamers effect.
-
6
Blow up balloons with air to create balloons for attachment to chairs or centerpieces. Tie balloons onto chairs or together for centerpieces with decorative ribbon. Blow up balloons for animals and follow a book's instructions on how to create various animals for children's parties.
