How to Use Keywords in Google Ads
Using Google Ads is one of the most effective ways to direct highly-targeted traffic to your website. When you choose to pursue this type of marketing, one of the fundamental building blocks of the process is developing effective keywords. Learning how to use keywords effectively can help take your marketing efforts to the next level. Using keywords appropriately will increase the chance of your ad being seen when someone initiates a search online using the associated keywords. Understanding how to work with keywords can make a big difference in the level of success you achieve with your ad campaign.

1
Set up an ad campaign in the Google AdWords program. This involves filling out your personal information and adding a payment method into the system. Once you set up an ad campaign, you can enter the keywords that you want to include in your campaign. The keywords that you select will trigger your ad to be displayed on search results pages within the Google Search Network. (See References 1)

2
Choose the type of keyword match that you want for your campaign. When you set up an ad campaign with Google, you can choose the type of match that you want for each keyword. For example, you can choose a broad match, an exact match or a phrase match. When you choose a broad match, your ad will be displayed more often as it will show up when variations of your keyword are typed in. If you choose an exact match or a phrase match, it will show up fewer times, but it will provide you with more highly targeted traffic. (See References 1)

3
Select any negative keywords that you want to use for your ad campaign. A negative keyword is a keyword that you include in your ad campaign for which you do not want your ad to be displayed. If you use a negative keyword in your campaign, when someone types this keyword into Google, your ad will not show up. In some cases, the negative keywords that you choose can have a bigger impact on the success of your campaign than any other factor. If you can think of a keyword that you know would not benefit your campaign, include it in this list. (See References 2)

4
Consider inserting keywords into the title of your advertisements. When someone triggers one of your ads to display on the Google network, they will see a clickable headline and a short description. When you include a keyword in your headline, it can sometimes improve click-through rate. (See References 3)
