Breeding horses is something that not many people get a chance to do. In real life, horses cost a great deal of money to board and feed and, for many people, it is just not a possibility. But you can experience the challenges and rewards of breeding horses without the cost and hassle of doing it in real life by playing online horse games like A Virtual Horse (AVH). Online horse games are the perfect way to learn how to breed and care for horses in a safe, virtual setting.

A Virtual Horse

1. Log on to AVirtualHorse.com and click the "Sign Up" button on the right side of the screen. Select which type of horse you want to begin the game with from the available options --- regular, pony, or draft horse --- and decide whether you want a mare or stallion. Name your horse by typing in the space available and select its breed from the drop down list then click the "Next" button.

2. Choose your horse's color from the options available on the left side of the screen. Click on a color to view it then click the "Next" button.

3. Create your account by typing your login information into the form. Type in your email address, player name and password. Then click "Next." Mark whether you are male or female, fill in your birth date and click "Next" again. Fill in the box stating that you agree with the game's terms of service and click "Sign Up."

4. View the AVH Navigation Tutorial when it pops up on your screen. When the tutorial is finished you can either close the window by clicking on the red X in the top right corner or click on the pictures of the buildings to review what they are.

5. Advance your starter horse to Level 2 in order to purchase a second horse to use for breeding later. To move your horse to the next level, participate in shows by clicking on the pair of binoculars on the right side of the screen.

6. Click the "Shows" icon when it appears and select the type of show in which you want to compete from the drop-down list and click "Find." Select a show from the available list and click the "Enter Show" link to compete. After ten seconds, you should receive a notification that your horse has moved to Level 2. You will also receive a letter in your inbox congratulating you and telling you how to purchase a second horse.

7. Visit the market by clicking on the "Market" icon and click on the "Rescued Horses" link to view the horses available. Click the box in the "Buy" column to display the cost of the horse at the top of the screen. The number of coins you have available is displayed at the very top of the game screen on the right. Purchase the horse of your choice by selecting it and clicking the "Buy" button.

8. Play games and enter horse shows in order to gain experience points (XP). Once you reach 36,000 experience points, and once your horses are up to Level 7, you can breed them.

9. Breed your horses by visiting the stable and clicking on the picture of the horse you want to breed. Click on the "Breed Horse" icon on the right side of the screen and select which horse you want to breed with.

10. Raise your new foals and enter them in shows in order to increase their levels so that they, too, can be bred.

Tips & Warnings

• AVH games give players the opportunity to breed not only virtual horses but ponies, unicorns and other mythical horse-like creatures. Once you have learned how to breed virtual horses, try your hand at breeding one of these other creatures or create your own hybrid.

• When purchasing your second horse, try to find one that is already at level 7 or higher. Horses can only be bred after level 7 so if you purchase a second horse at that level you only need to raise your original horse's level to be able to breed it.
