How To Enable Input on Ableton Live

Ableton Live is software that allows users to create their own music. If you have a compatible MIDI controller or keyboard you can use this as an input in Ableton Live. This is very useful for creating music as it allows you to use a MIDI keyboard rather than use the built-in keyboard. This gives you more control over the sound. Likewise, you can control the effects with control knobs that gradually and carefully maneuver onscreen dials, rather than use a mouse. Once you have enabled the input once, you will not need to enable it again --- you'll be able to just connect it and use it.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Ableton Live.

    • 2

Press "Ctrl" then "," to open the preferences. Click "MIDI/Sync."

    • 3

Click the first "Control Surface" drop-down menu.

    • 4

      Select your control surface type.

    • 5

Change the "Input" and "Output" routing if you need to; the default option will be the only option available (with the exception of a few controllers). Press "Enter" to save changes and exit.
