Instructions

    • 1

Search online for the nearest GED testing center to you. Each state has testing centers, so where you live determines who you will send your application to after you complete it. A good place to start is the American Council on Education website (acenet.edu). A link is available in the Resources section.

    • 2

Secure a seat at the testing center for a date that works best for you. Make sure to clear your schedule for the date, since the test takes a few hours to complete.

    • 3

Download the official application to take the GED test from your state. You can find a link for this on the same website that shows you the location for testing centers in your area. Sometimes you can type your information directly onto the form. If so, type your information into the fields and print after you complete it. If not, print the application and fill it out with a blue or black pen.

    • 4

Put your completed application in the envelope with the correct amount of postage. Also place a check or money order in the envelope to pay the GED application fee. Address the envelope to the location where the testing center indicated.

    • 5

Put your GED and check in the mail. You may wish to send your application with a delivery confirmation. If so, go to the post office, fill out a conformation of delivery form, and pay the small fee for this, and put it in the mail. When your application arrives at its destination, a card will be sent to you confirming its receipt.
