How to Craft a Grinch With a Lightbulb
Dr. Seuss' book and the ensuing movie "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" are a favorite story among adults and children. His green color and unusual features make the Grinch appealing to the imagination, while the oval shape of the Grinch's head makes a light bulb a good fit for a craft. Recycle light bulbs and plastic containers into Grinch crafts all ages can accomplish.

Grinch Head
-
1
Paint the entire surface of a light bulb green, including the base. Let the paint dry. Add a second coat if needed to cover the bulb and base well.
-
2
Work the socket part of the light bulb downward to become the Grinch's neck.
Use a pencil to sketch the facial features of the Grinch onto the bulb above the neck. Follow the pattern of a Grinch picture to help with the sketch.
-
-
3
Follow the sketch to paint the face onto the bulb with black and white paint pens. Make a light pink circle on each side of the Grinch's mouth to create blushing cheeks.
-
4
Spray a light coat of clear paint over the entire bulb to prevent the paint from peeling off.
Let the paint dry before continuing.
-
5
Cut a strip of green craft fur to fit around the neck of the bulb. Be sure to cut the fur so it hangs downward, not to the side. Cut a circular piece of fur for the top of the head as well.
-
6
Use a hot glue gun to fasten the fur strip around the Grinch's neck. Press firmly until the glue sets. Glue the circle of fur onto the top of the Grinch's head.
-
7
Cut a length of ribbon, if desired, to make a loop to hang the Grinch's head for display.
Tie the ribbon into a loop. Use a hot glue gun to fasten the ribbon to the top of the head just behind the fur circle.
Full-body Grinch
-
8
Make a Grinch head, following steps 1 to 4 in section 1.
-
9
Remove the label from a wide-mouth plastic juice container. Wash the container if needed. Discard the lid.
-
10
Dab a bead of hot glue around the opening of the container. Place the base of the light-bulb Grinch head inside the opening and press firmly to attach the two pieces together.
-
11
Cut and glue strips of fur for the neck and head as in Section 1, Steps 5 and 6.
-
12
Cut several strips of green fur to cover the container and form the body of the Grinch. Make the strips the length of the bottle's neck to bottom. Be sure to cut so the fur hangs down and not sideways.
-
13
Put a bead of glue around the backside of each piece of fur. Press the fur onto the container. Work around the entire container to cover it in fur.
-
14
Fluff and arrange the fur on the Grinch craft as desired.
