How to Make MP3 CDs for Stereos

If you have a stereo with a CD player that can play MP3 files, then you can burn a data MP3 CD that will work on the stereo using the free and native program Windows Media Player. While some old CD player stereo systems can use only the format CDA to play music, most modern stereos are capable of using MP3 files burned onto a CD in a data CD format. The advantage of MP3 in this case is that one CD will store many more files in MP3 than it will in CDA.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" in Windows and select "Windows Media Player." Insert a blank CD in your CD drive.

    • 2

Click on the "Burn" tab. Click the down arrow right underneath the "Burn" label, and select "Data CD."

    • 3

Click-and-drag MP3 files to the "Burn List" box in the bottom-right side of the "Burn" tab. Click the "Start Burn" button inside the box there to begin burning to CD.
