How to Run "Dwarf Fortress" on My Mac

The Dwarf Fortress software for Macintosh computers is a fantasy game by Bay 12 Games, and is available as a free download from the Apple Downloads site. The game is compatible on Mac OS X v.10.3 and later, and requires 100MB of free hard drive space. Although the download file is only 6.5MB, the game continuously uses space during gameplay. Dwarf Fortress is easy to install and run on your Mac.

Instructions

1. Click the "Download" button on the Dwarf Fortress page on the Apple Downloads site (see Resources).

2. Click "Open with" and click StuffIt Expander as the default application to open the zipped file. Double-click the Dwarf Fortress folder, and double-click the game's icon to open it.

3. Click "Open" to confirm you want to open the downloaded Internet application.

4. Click "Yes" to open the game full screen. Hit "Ctrl + F11" to exit this mode.

5. Click "Dwarf Fortress," then "Quit Dwarf Fortress" to close the game.
