How to Shrink Photo Size in iPhoto thumbnail
You can shrink your photos without loosing quality.

Many digital cameras take large photos. When uploaded them to your computer, the photos are difficult to edit, upload to websites and email. Reducing the file size on your photos will reduce the time it takes to download the photo onto an email or website, and make the photo easily viewable. You can shrink the size of the photo in iPhoto.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Plus" icon at the bottom of the screen on the iPhoto application. Scroll to a photo album and click to "Select." Scroll to the name of the photo you wish to resize and click it to open it.

    • 2

Click the "File" on the menu bar. Click "Export."

    • 3

Click the radio button next to "Scale images to no longer than" to select a custom size for your photo.

    • 4

Enter "640" into the text box next to width. Enter "480" in the text box next to height. This is the size of a 4 by 6 photo.

    • 5

Press the "Export" button to export your photo. Select a location for your photo from the options menu and click to "Select." Press "OK" to resize and export your photo.

Tips & Warnings

  • When altering a size, you must select at least one pixel size for either height or width. IPhoto will automatically populate the missing field.

  • Do not send your photos to an email or upload them directly from iPhoto. Doing so will cause you to loose your resize settings and the photo will appear in its original size.
