Instructions

    • 1

Place ice cubes in a 1 gallon freezer storage bag. Fill the bag approximately 1/3 full. Press out the air and seal the bag closed.

    • 2

Wrap the bag in a tea towel. Don't use terrycloth towels, as any ice that escapes from the bag clings to terrycloth.

    • 3

Roll a rolling pin over the top of the ice, crushing it. Alternatively, thump the wrapped ice with a wooden spoon or rubber mallet until the ice is crushed to the desired size pieces.

    • 4

Use the crushed ice immediately or return it to the freezer for later use. The ice may require light crushing right before serving, as refrozen crushed ice sometimes fuses together.

Tips & Warnings

  • Crush the ice directly in the tea towel if you don't have a plastic bag. Crush in small batches and change the towel as it becomes wet if you are crushing a large amount of ice.
