Using perspective is the best way to create 3-D objects.

There are four basic ways of drawing 3-D lettering; however, using the "one point perspective" method produces the most effective-looking letters. This method uses the principles of perspective so it takes into account the idea that 3-D objects get smaller the farther away they are.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a capital "R" with a thickness of approximately 1/3 inch.

    • 2

Mark a point to the upper left of your letter. If your letter has a width of 1 inch, then the point should measure 1 inch above and to the left of the R.

    • 3

Use the ruler to draw lines from the letter to the point. Make sure the lines start from all the corners of the letter and culminate at the same point.

    • 4

Consider the depth of the letter and draw shadow lines around the "R" to decide the thickness of it.

    • 5

Finish it off by erasing the lines that continue to the point so you are left with just the 3-D "R."
