Baked macaroni and cheese is one of America's favorite dishes. It can be made quickly in large amounts to feed the whole family. This often results in leftovers. But the macaroni and cheese can become dry when stored, if proper measures aren't put into place. A few simple precautions can have you enjoying the dish as much as you did the night before. Avoid dry leftover macaroni and cheese by eating it close to the day that you made it.
Put the macaroni and cheese into a container and then cover it tightly with plastic wrap while it is still warm. The moisture in the warm macaroni will keep it from drying out.
Add a few tablespoons of warm water to the macaroni and cheese before securing plastic wrap over it, if the dish is cool. This will help the macaroni from drying out, but won't do as good of a job as sealing the dish when it is still warm.
Store macaroni and cheese that has been boiled extra long before baking. This might compromise the texture of the pasta, but it will stay moist when stored.
