How to Start a Fast for Ramadan
From the first light of day until the sun sets, Muslims observe fasting during the month of Ramadan. One of Islam's Five Pillars, Sawm -- fasting -- is a means of spiritual and physical self-purification, according to the website, Islamicity. (See References 1) Silence, prayer and restrain mark the passage of Ramadan, the holiest month on the Islamic calendar prescribed by the Qur'an. (See References 2) As each dawn during Ramadan approaches, Muslims prepare to experience a cornerstone of their religious faith.
