How to Have a Christian View
In a pluralist, post-modern world, it is increasingly difficult to hold a Christian view on specific issues. Because of the rise of technology, specific issues have arisen that are not specifically mentioned in the Bible, such as stem-cell research, abortion and pornography. Luckily, there are many ways to build a Christian view about any topic.

1
Read the Bible in its entirety. Although this may be too time consuming if someone needs to develop a view quickly, it is the best way to know what Christianity is. By seeing how God responded to other issues, Christians can learn what God likes, and what He doesn't like.

2
Consult specific verses that relate to the issue at hand. While many issues are not explicitly dealt with in the Bible, the vast majority of them are still dealt with, albeit not specifically. For example, although cocaine is not condemned in the Bible, alcohol abuse is, which can give a Christian a timeless principle that can be applied to areas outside of alcohol abuse. Use a Bible concordance to look up key verses that pertain to the topic at hand.

3
Consult church history. Although church history has not always been correct, it is still the sum total of how Christians have responded to certain issues in the past. By consulting church history, Christians can gain a key understanding of how other people have interpreted the Bible and how various points of doctrine have developed over the centuries.

Talk to a pastor. If you are a layman that has not had the opportunity to study these issues in depth, consult somebody who has. Most pastors have been to a Bible school or seminary and have probably wrestled with many of the same issues you do. Talk the issue over with a pastor to gain a deeper understanding; your pastor will also be able to direct you to further resources to facilitate your quest.
