1
Wash your hair and scalp often to eliminate dirt, oil, sweat, and other residue -- using a mild shampoo and conditioner. Shampoos and conditioners with harsh chemicals in the ingredients can cause irritation to your scalp, so choose carefully.
-
2
Start using an anti-dandruff shampoo, if you notice flakes appearing on your scalp. Apply the anti-dandruff shampoo to your hair in the shower and let it sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing. Do this several times a week, until the dandruff problem subsides.

3
Treat a dry scalp by only shampooing your hair every other day for a while. Washing your hair and scalp too often can sometimes strip it of healthy oils, so go easy on the shampoo if your head feels itchy and dry. You should also consider switching to a more gentle shampoo.

Remember to apply sunblock to exposed areas of your scalp when you go out in the sun. Make sure that the part of your hair in particular is protected from sunburns with a layer of sunblock.
-
5
Eat a healthy diet to keep your scalp and the rest of your body in great condition. Eat foods low in saturated fats and sugar, and get plenty of vitamins by implementing more fruits and vegetables into your diet.
