How to Share Events on Twitter
Twitter is quickly gaining popularity as an effective tool for planning events. Its quickly distributed messages make it the perfect medium for organizing anything from a community fundraiser to a gala opening night to a secret concert to a flash mob. As with all social networking tools, only public events should be advertised on Twitter. Don't use Twitter to advertise private events at your home, unless you have a locked Twitter account. However, if your goal is to get as many people as possible to show up for your event, it's time to get tweeting.

1
Write a brief description of your event. Tweets can't be any more than 140 characters, so you will need to keep things short and sweet, especially if you will be adding a link to your event's website. While you may think that a vague, curiousity-piquing tweet might spark your followers' intrigue, Twitter users are often wary of clicking on links without a description, as such tactics are often used by spammers. Keep your description short but informative.

2
Add a link to your event's website. As a full URL is often too long for a tweet, you will want to use a URL-shortening service such as bit.ly, is.gd or TinyUrl. These free services replace a long URL with a bite-size one. Even with a shortened URL, you may find it necessary to adjust your event description to accommodate for it.

3
Create a hashtag for your event. A hashtag is a way of marking tweets with a particular keyword. This enables users who are searching for tweets regarding an event or topic to see tweets from every user that uses the hashtag, even if they don't follow them. For example, a hashtagged tweet from a book sale might look like this:
Wow, these books are going fast. Good thing I got here early! #BookSale
Anybody searching for the term "booksale" would see this tweet. Users can also click on a hashtag to see all the other tweets that have used the hashtag. Hashtags are an effective way to create buzz and streamline the chatter surrounding your event.
