How to Make a Mylar Parachute
Kids often find excitement and entertainment by attaching a toy parachute onto an object or doll, then tossing the toy off of a staircase or porch to see the toy float safely to the ground. Although you can buy a toy parachute from any toy store, you can also make a handmade toy parachute using a few basic craft items that can be purchased from any art supply store, such as colorful Mylar sheets.
Things You'll Need
- Mylar sheet
- Measuring tape
- Wax pencil

1
Draw out an octagon using a wax pencil onto a sheet of Mylar to measure 12 inches in diameter. Cut out the Mylar octagon using scissors.
-
2
Punch out a hole at each corner of the octagon using a single hole punch. Place each punched-out hole 1/2-inch away from the edges of the Mylar.
-
-
3
Place a hole protector sticker onto either side of each punched-out hole, which will prevent the holes from tearing.
-
4
Cut eight pieces of twine to measure 12 inches long each. Tie one end of each piece of twine into a knot around each of the punched-out holes.
-
5
Separate the other ends of the twine pieces into two groups of four pieces. Tie the ends of each group together. You can tie the pieces of twine onto an object or toy before sending it off of a stairwell or porch.
