How to Make Shoes for Stuffed Animals

How to Make Shoes for Stuffed Animals thumbnail
Baby shoes are excellent matches to stuffed animal toys.

Stuffed animal shoes resemble baby booties and they are easy to make by following a sewing pattern. The project is easy and cost effective. With the price of one pair of toy shoes from the store, you can make five stuffed animal shoes. The type of fabric used for the shoes depends on the maker's preference.

Things You'll Need

  • Scrap of fabric (any)
  • Thread
  • Two 4-inch pieces of 1/8-inch elastic

Instructions

    • 1

Roll out the fabric and hold it down so that it does not bunch anywhere.

    • 2

Trace four semicircles for the front top and bottom section of the shoes. The diameter of the semicircle should be 4 inches.

    • 3

Trace two elliptical shapes for the soles of the shoe. The length of the elliptical should be four inches long or the length of the stuffed animal's foot. Make the top (lengthwise) of the elliptical slightly bigger than the bottom

    • 4

Trace two trapezoid shapes for the back heels. The longer length should be straight while the shorter length should be slightly rounded. The straight length of the back heel piece should measure around 6-1/2 inches. The rounded edge should be 6 inches.

    • 5

Cut all the traced pieces of fabric.

    • 6

Stitch to form a 1/4-inch casing on the straight side of the back heel. Lace the elastic band through the casting using a safety pin. Sew up the sides of the casting to keep the elastic in place.

    • 7

Pin down one of the front pieces to the back heel piece. The right sides should be down together and the elasticized edges toward the center. Take a second front piece and pin it to the top of the same back heel with the right side down.

    • 8

Stitch across the straight edge of the back heel piece leaving a 1/4-inch space for the seam. Then, turn the pieces to the right sides

    • 9

Match the front piece pieces with the front of the sole piece. Pin them down.

    • 10

Stitch the sole piece to the rest of the show in a zigzag manner. Turn the shoes to the right side (inside of being inside out).
