How to Adjust the Margins in a Blogger Sidebar
Blogs have come a long way from the earliest days of online journals. Now used for any number of online communication purposes, blogs are completely customizable to ensure that each section of the web page meets your criteria. In Blogger, you can adjust the width of the sidebars -- as well as the main content section -- using the Template Designer. Keep in mind that you are dealing with a fixed amount of width overall, so adjusting the margins on one section of a page may require a sacrifice of space in another.

Tips & Warnings
Expanding the width of the entire blog may allow you more room for your sidebar. Be aware that this will also change the way the blog background shows through around the text.
You can use the "Reset widths to template default" link at any time if you want to start over.
