How to Record in VLC

The VideoLAN (VLC) media player is a versatile and lightweight media player that is free to download and use. VLC will play most audio and video files without additional codecs or downloads. VLC will also record a playing video or song. To record in VLC first the "Record" button, which is hidden by default, needs to be accessible. Using the VLC Advanced Controls option the Record button is added to the VLC interface.

      Open the VLC media player.

      Click the "View" option on the top navigation panel and click "Advanced Controls" from the View menu. The recording controls are added to the VLC interface.

      Play the media to be recorded in the VLC player.

      Press the "Record" button that now appears at the bottom of the viewing screen in VLC to record the playing media. The Record button turns blue while recording is in process.

      Press the "Record" button again to stop recording. The file is automatically saved in the user's "Documents" folder with the name of "VLC Record" plus the date and time.
