How to Do a '40s Hairstyle
One of the most popular elements used in styling hair during the 1940s was the pin curl. Pin curls make the hair very full with curled ends and can be styled in several ways. Setting your own pin curls is quite simple if you have the patience and proper tools. You will want to begin the curling process the night before to allow time for them to set properly. This '40s hairstyle has a particularly authentic and dramatic effect. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wash and condition your hair as usual and allow it to dry halfway.
-
2
Brush the damp hair thoroughly to remove tangles and smooth strands.
-
-
3
Pull a 1/2-inch-thick section of hair directly away from the head. From the tip, use your finger as an anchor and gently twirl the section of hair into a tight curl.
-
4
Pin the curl to the scalp using a bobby pin. If your hair is especially thick, you may need to use two bobby pins in an X formation.
-
5
Repeat the process until all hair has been curled into 1/2-inch sections and pinned at the scalp.
-
6
Place a silk scarf over the pins on your head and secure. Allow the curls to stay pinned overnight.
-
7
Remove the bobby pins in the morning and use your fingers to gently shake the curls out. Avoid brushing the curls, as it will pull the curl out and cause unnecessary frizz.
-
8
Part your hair to the side and mist the entire style with hairspray.
