How to Flush DNS on Leopard

When your computer tries to connect to a website, it will use a Domain Name System (DNS) address to access that website. Each website address is a DNS path to a host's Internet Protocol (IP) address. Whenever you go to a website, your Mac Leopard computer logs that path in a DNS cache. It is useful to flush the DNS periodically so that you can clear space and improve your operating system performance.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Applications," then "Utilities."

    • 2

      Click "Terminal."

    • 3

Type "dscacheutil -flushcache" (without quotes) into the Terminal.

    • 4

Press "Enter." This will flush the Terminal in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
