How to View the Source of an HTML Email in Gmail

The Gmail messages you typically view are the ones "prettied up" by Gmail. This means that all message headers are stripped from view, and HTML code is translated into the appropriate display. However, Gmail also gives you the option to view all this extra information. From it, you can see the source IP address, delivery data and the source of HTML emails.

Instructions

    • 1

      Log into your Gmail account.

    • 2

Open the email, for which you wish to view the source.

    • 3

Click the triangle at the top-right of the message and click "Show original." This opens a separate window displaying the header information and HTML code.
