How to Upload to FTP on Macs

The File Transfer Protocol was invented in the 1970s and has undergone several revisions since that time. FTP was created so that a computer system can upload and download files to and from a remote computer system. Apple Macintosh computers run the Mac OS X operating system, which has built-in support for limited FTP functionality. You can upload to an FTP server on a Mac through the Finder interface.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Finder" icon in the dock.

    • 2

Click the "Go" menu at the top of the screen.

    • 3

      Click "Connect to Server."

    • 4

Type "ftp://username:password@IP/" without quotes and replace "username," "password" and "IP" with actual values. For example, "ftp://mike:123@ftp.example.com/." If the FTP server does not require a username and password, enter it in the "ftp://example.com/" format.

    • 5

Press "Return" to mount the FTP server. Drag files from Finder into the FTP window to upload files from the Mac to the FTP server.
