Look at the imprint on the back of your iPhone. The iPhone is a 3G model if the Apple logo is silver and the text on the lower half of the back of the iPhone is faded and almost blends in with the rest of the back cover. The iPhone is a 3GS model if the Apple logo and the text on the lower half of the back of the iPhone is silver.
