Homemade cards are thoughtful additions to holiday and birthday gifts. Make your handmade greeting card more interesting and exciting by turning it into a pop-up card that suits the occasion. Pop-up cards are relatively easy to make and require only basic materials. A frog pop-up card is an engaging craft for children and ideal for a classroom unit on animals or a project for a rainy afternoon.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold each piece of construction paper in half so that the crease is vertical.

    • 2

Cut a straight line in the middle of the green construction paper, perpendicular to the fold. This cut should extend 3/4 of the way across the folded page horizontally, making the mouth large and the focal point of the card. This will form the frog's pop-up mouth.

    • 3

Fold a triangle back on each side of the slit. Crease well.

    • 4

Open the card. The folds you made in Step 3 provide guidelines for the pop-out frog mouth.

    • 5

Bend the paper gently and carefully along the creases so that the frog mouth pops out from the inside. When you open and close the card, the frog mouth will pop out and flatten, appearing to move.

    • 6

Turn the paper over and draw a frog shape on the backside, with the frog mouth in the appropriate spot. Cut out the frog shape.

    • 7

Unfold the second piece of construction paper. Glue the frog backside down onto the inside of the second piece of construction paper. The vertical folds of both pieces of construction paper should line up so that the card opens and closes properly. Avoid getting glue on the pop-up frog mouth.

    • 8

Decorate the inside and outside of your frog pop-up card. Add detail to the frog's eyes and write a phrase that relates to the occasion, such as "happy birthday."

Tips & Warnings

  • Exercise caution when using sharp instruments such as scissors. If young children are doing this craft, cut out the shapes ahead of time.
