T-shirts, arguably one of the most casual forms of clothing, were first worn as underwear. The U.S. Armed Forces incorporated the T-shirt into part of the uniform, which ultimately led to its popularity as we know it today. After World War II, returning servicemen wore their uniform T-shirts as shirts -- not underwear. Modern T-shirts come in an endless rainbow of colors with or without graphics. Transform a men's XXL T-shirt into a circle scarf once it becomes too worn to wear or its design goes out of style.
Things You'll Need
- Men's XXL T-shirt
Lay the shirt out flat on your work surface. Smooth any wrinkles out of the shirt with your hands.
Make two parallel cuts widthwise across the shirt. Make one of the cuts under the armpits of the shirt. Make the second cut just above the hem at the bottom of the shirt. Cut through both the front and the back of the shirt when making these cuts.
Discard the top portion of the shirt and the hem. Stretch the remaining loop of fabric a little to encourage the cut edges to curl, and you're done.
Tips & Warnings
- You don't need to hem the edges of the circle scarf because knit fabrics don't fray like woven fabrics do, and all T-shirts are made from knit fabric.
