How to Delete a Business From Google Maps

Google Maps presents street maps that correspond to business locations. To improve the accuracy of those maps, Google allows "community edits" of its street addresses, driving directions and search results. Business owners are encouraged to use the community edits feature to alter Google map search results. When a business no longer exists, the closure should be reported directly to Google.

Instructions

    • 1

      Visit Google Maps at maps.google.com.

    • 2

Type the name and city of the business you want deleted from Google Maps into the search bar and click "Search Maps."

    • 3

Click the "More" link to reveal a drop-down menu that contains options, such as editing the map's details and reporting problems.

    • 4

Choose the "Report a Problem" option from within the drop-down menu. A "Report a Problem" pop-up window should appear.

    • 5

Select a reason why the business should be deleted. Your options include specifying if the business is permanently closed, does not exist or if it is a private operation.

    • 6

Provide relevant details about why you are reporting the problematic listing to Google Maps within the comment box.

    • 7

Check the box next to the words, "Send email when the problem is reviewed," if you wish to learn about the outcome of your report.

    • 8

Press the "Report Problem" button at the bottom of the form to finalize the request to delete a business from Google Maps.
