How to Decorate a Teen's Room as a Fashion Designer

Your bedroom should reflect your personality, style and individuality as you blossom into an independent adult. Use your passion as a theme for your bedroom. For example, a fashion-themed bedroom is ideal for an aspiring fashion designer. Incorporate your style and vision into your bedroom to spark your creativity and display some of your ideas. Your fashion designer bedroom should also function as a place to entertain friends, do schoolwork and work on your fashion projects.

Instructions

1. Paint the room a light, neutral color if you plan to include bright and colorful accessories or fashions. For example, a soft beige, sage green, pale pink or gray will serve as a plain background that allows your fashion ensembles to stand out. Alternatively, a peel-and-stick wall mural of a runway or wallpaper that features stripes or dresses adds more flair to the walls. Use the paper or pattern on one wall so you don't overwhelm the room.

2. Position your furniture so there's enough space for you to design or model your fashion creations. Solid furniture in black, white or dark brown is functional and will not take away from your decor. Ornate furniture, such as an upholstered or wrought-iron headboard, can add drama to the room. Include a bed, chest or dresser and a desk or other work station. Add a chair, such as a high heel-shaped novelty chair, and shelves, if there's enough space.

3. Use bedding that complements your personal style. For example, mix animal prints or opt for a black-and-white print that you can dress up with colorful accessories. Your curtains, rug and pillows should complement the bedding and overall decor of the room.

4. Hang framed sketches, pictures or posters featuring your favorite fashions, designers or your own work. Opt for clipping pictures on a thin wire running across your room if you like a more casual look or enjoy updating your own sketches frequently. Frame scraps of your favorite fabric for a colorful display. Use mirrors in different sizes and shapes as well.

5. Implement storage space in your room for your clothes, fabric, sketches, patterns and other items you need. Colorful baskets, bins or totes can easily slide on a shelf and hold patterns, sketches, paper, pencils, accessories, school supplies and small electronic gadgets. Use a trunk, under-the-bed storage or storage ottoman to hold extra fabric for your fashion designs.

6. Accessorize your bedroom with metal mannequins or dress mannequins that hold your work-in-progress. Lamps come in a variety of styles and colors ranging from simple lamps with patterned shades to high heel-shaped lamps. Use a coat rack or hooks in the walls to display your favorite creations.
