How to Draw Pictures of Deer
If you wish to draw a deer, a picture of this particular animal can assist you in realistically recreating this image. This activity may seem difficult for inexperienced artists, but with a little patience and practice, you will be able to complete this drawing with very little problems. Because deer can vary in size and body features, select a picture that best reflects the image in your mind.
Instructions

1
Sketch a medium-sized circle that will represent the face and head of the deer you are drawing. Divide this head into four equal sections that will act as guidelines for detailing the face.
-
2
Draw two lines on top of the deer's head in a wishbone shape to draft the antlers. If the deer you are drawing does not have antlers, simply ignore these actions.
-
-
3
Draw an oval-shaped outline below the head of the deer, connected by a set of two curved lines. The curved lines will act as the guidelines for the neck while the oval-shaped circle will become the deer's body.
-
4
Sketch vertical lines down from the draft of the deer's body to represent the legs. These limbs bend in certain ways, so it is important that the joints of the legs are depicted in this realistic manner. Use light pencil strokes to draft these features.
-
5
Draw a horizontal oval on either side of the deer's head. These features will act as the animal's ears, as they are positioned just below the antlers.
-
6
Draw two small ovals inside the face of the deer, situated in the upper half. These will represent the eyes and should be sketched in a slim manner. Sketch small circles inside these eyes to act as the pupils.
-
7
Study the picture of the deer and notice how the upper and lower halves of the deer's mouth are portrayed, while the nose is planted firmly in the middle of the face. Sketch these facial features to reflect the image in a realistic manner, using light pencil strokes to define this area.
-
8
Detail the body and legs of the deer carefully through each section. Draw ovals at the bottom of the legs to guide you through the basic shapes of the hooves. Sketch another oval on the very rear of the body to represent the tail. Clean up these lines to give your deer's body the proportional lines to portray a realistic image.
-
9
Compare the drawing of your deer with the picture you used as a reference guide. Fix any differences you find in the pictures and erase any pencil marks that are not needed.
-
10
Trace all of the pencil marks that define the deer's body and head with an ink pen. Slowly move the ink pen over each of the pencil marks to avoid any erratic motions and smearing of the wet ink. Let the ink dry when you have completely outlined everything, then erase all of the remaining pencil marks.
