How to Warm Baby Wipes

Baby wipes don't really need warming as long as you keep your home at a comfortable temperature. But if you really want to warm wipes, it can be done safely and easily.

• Baby Washcloths
• Baby Wipe Warmers
• Bath Towels
• Baby Wipes
• Blow Dryers

1. Choose very carefully if you buy an electric wipe warmer. Some of these have been recalled due to possible fire hazard. Check the Consumer Products Safety Commission Web site, or call the manufacturer to ask about previous recalls and possible hazards.

2. Hold wipes in your hands for a few moments before you use them to help take off the initial coolness.

3. Hold wipes in front of a blow dryer on "warm" for a few seconds, but not long enough to dry out or overheat the wipes.

4. Wring out cloth wipes or baby washcloths in warm soapy water before using them.

Tips & Warnings

• If your baby seems to get cold and uncomfortable during diaper changes, try changing him on a fluffy towel or in warm bathroom with a heat lamp, if possible, instead of on a changing table. Just make sure the light from the lamp isn't directly above your baby's eyes.
• Don't use a second-hand wipe warmer, even if it seems to be in good shape, as it may have electrical problems.
• If using cloth wipes, check the temperature of the water very carefully before you wring them out and use them. Baby skin is sensitive, and too-hot water can burn a baby severely.

on 11/13/2007 The way to tell if a baby wipe or water is the right temperature for the baby is to hold it against the inside of your wrist. If it's comfortable for you, it will be OK for the baby.

on 11/22/2005 Do not use a microwave -- that is just plain dumb and a fire hazard. To say nothing of scalding.

Purchase your disposable wipes in a plastic dispenser jar, as opposed to the plastic bag. You are going to go thru alot of them, so why not go for the big size???

Next, half-fill the sink with hot water. Place the dispenser jar in the sink, and weigh it down with a phone book or something heavy: the jar is mostly air so it will otherwise float. Goes without saying: make sure the lid is shut otherwise you may end up with soggy wipes, no good to anyone.

Trial-and-error will tell you when the wipes are warm enough not to surprise baby, yet not so warm that they need to cool before use. Beware that wipes often use an aromatic for quick-drying (sometimes alcohol) and that this will tend to evaporate as you use heat to warm them up repeatedly -- making them slightly less effective.

There is no danger of fire or scalding using this method. Better still, tho' -- get the baby used to cool wipes: it is less work.

2 T Baby Bath
Remove cardboard from roll
Mix water baby oil & bath in container
Put the half roll in container Put lid on Turn upside down to saturate Use

on 11/22/2005 Baby wipes can be microwaved to warm them! I put two folded wipes in a small bowl for 10 to 15 seconds. Before wiping baby's skin, ensure that the wipe did not get too hot! Different ovens may require more or less time, so check it out before using it.
