You can rent a post office box in Miami for one year or six months at a time.

Every Miami post office has a large selection of post office boxes. The purpose of each post office box is to provide you a place to have your mail delivered if you opt not to have it delivered to your home address; you can rent a post office box and have your mail delivered there. Your box is locked at all times, only accessible with your key. To rent a post office box you can contact your local Miami post office.

      Go to the United States Postal Service website to rent a post office box (usps.com). Click on the "All Products and Services" link at the top of the page. On the following page click "Mailing and Shipping Guidelines."

      Locate the "Options for Receiving Mail" link at the right of the next page and click on it. Click "PO Box Service" from the dropdown menu that appears. Click "PO Boxes Online."

      Click "Get Started Now" to begin the process of renting a post office box. The online application requires your name, street address, contact information and your credit card number for payment; fees are calculated based on the box size you want to rent. The USPS determines which Miami post office your post office box is located based on the street address you enter for yourself.

      Determine the size of the post office box you want to rent and select that size. Print your application when it is complete.

      Take your application and two forms of identification -- one must be photo identification -- to the post office where you rented your post office box. You must present your identification and completed online application to receive the keys to your new post office box.

  • Apply for a post office box in person at your local post office by filling out the same application in person as online, presenting your identification and paying for your box.

  • The United States Postal Service accepts driver licenses, state-issued identification cards, military ID cards, government ID cards, passports, alien registration cards and certificates of naturalization as photo identification.

  • The USPS accepts home or vehicle insurance policies, deeds, mortgage statements, lease statements, vehicle registration and voter registration as secondary identification.
