How to Install BioShock Without Auto-Updating

After a game reaches the open market, it is not uncommon for the developer to send out a patch that resolves in-game issues or bugs. In the case of "BioShock," the first big game patch fixed missing items, small animation issues and audio problems. This patch automatically applies itself when you first start the game. Running the game without the patch leaves these glitches intact but requires a workaround.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect your Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 from the Internet. Unplug the Ethernet cord if you have hardwired your connection, or go to the "Network settings" option on the console's dashboard menu and turn the connection off.

    • 2

Insert the "BioShock" disc. When the game loads, exit back to the dashboard. The PS3 version will automatically install a portion of the game to the hard disc, but the Xbox version requires further attention.

    • 3

Scroll to "My Xbox" on the Xbox 360 dashboard and select "BioShock." Press "Y" to open the game menu and select "Install to Hard Drive."

    • 4

Wait for the install to complete. Once the game installs on either console, you can run it without the update as long as you disconnect from the Internet whenever you insert the "BioShock" game disc.

Tips & Warnings

  • There is no way to avoid the auto-update for the PC version of "BioShock," as it relies on an Internet connection to complete its installation process.

  • You will still need the "BioShock" disc to play the game, even after installing to the PS3 or Xbox 360 hard drive.
