How to Change Boundaries in Publisher

Microsoft Publisher, part of the Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Suite, is a single software program, but it contains templates and guides to create an endless array of publications and materials. With Publisher's quick-start templates, you are up and running in moments. Publisher's template boundaries, such as sizing and margins, are not set in stone. All of Publisher's formatting is completely configurable to fit your document requirements.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Publisher. Choose one of the template categories, or click the "Blank 8.5 x 11" button in the top left corner of the "Available Templates" screen.

    • 2

Change the margins, which act as boundaries on the page, by clicking the "Page Design" tab at the top of the work area. Click the "Margins" button below the tab. Click one of the preset margin boundary options, or click "Custom Margins" and configure custom ones.

    • 3

Change the way the page appears, which is vertical/upright by default for this and some of the other template options. Click the "Orientation" button under "Page Design" followed by "Landscape." Publisher automatically shifts the layout.

    • 4

Resize the page itself by clicking the "Size" button under "Page Design." Choose one of the preset page sizes. Alternatively, click "Page Setup" and type in your own "Width" and "Height."

Tips & Warnings

  • Changing boundaries in one of Publisher's other templates works the same way, although changing page boundaries on a multi-page document or document of a different size may cause text box and image shifting or repagination. Scroll through all pages of the document after changing the boundaries.
