The Royal Marines are a United Kingdom military fighting force that conduct operations under the banner of the Royal Navy. Click on the "Careers" box and select "Entry Requirements" from the pull-down menu. You must be a male between the ages of 16 and 36, and a member of the Commonwealth or Irish Republic. You must also meet the minimum educational requirements in core subjects, such as English and math.

      Contact a career adviser online or by the phone. At the top of the page, click on the "Careers" box which initiates a pull-down menu. Click "How to join." You can contact a career adviser by filling out an online form or by calling the number listed under "Contact our Careers Advisors."

      Visit your local Armed Forces Career Office to discuss your application with an active Royal Marine. To locate the closest office, call the career adviser number provided on the website.

      Take an aptitude test, which will evaluate your language skills, reasoning, mechanical comprehension and facility with numbers.

      Sit for an interview with a career adviser and submit to a medical exam to ensure that you're in optimal health.

      Take the fitness test, which consists of two 2.4 km runs on a treadmill with a two-degree inclination. The first run must be completed in 12 minutes and 30 seconds, or less. You will rest for 60 seconds before performing the second run, which must be completed in 10 minutes, 30 seconds, or less. You must pass this fitness test in order to move on to the next step.

      Take the Potential Royal Marines Course, which spans three days and includes a three-mile run, gym tests, an assault course and classroom work. In addition, you must sit for another interview that focuses on learning more about you personally, and the reasons you want to join the Royal Marines. At the end of your third day of the course, you will be informed whether or not you meet the criteria to join the Royal Marines and begin formal training.

  • Prepare yourself for the rigorous physical requirements of the tests by staying fit through activities such as playing sports, jogging, swimming and working out regularly at a gym.
