How to Make a Frankenstein Costume for Kids
Though Frankenstein's monster originated in an obscure 1818 horror novel by an English writer named Mary Shelley, he now sits among the pandemonium of traditional Halloween horror monsters. His classic look involves a beat-up and scarred green face, hulking shoulders, bolts through the neck and a shuffling gait. Because of his scary look and grunting demeanor, kids love dressing up like Frankenstein for Halloween and costume parties. Luckily for parents, Frankenstein is an easy and inexpensive costume to assemble. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions
-

1
Cut a piece of the wire hanger, about the length of the circumference of the child's neck.
-
2
Bend the wire into a C-shape, and bend each end of the wire around your thumb so a 1-inch piece stands out straight at a 90-degree angle from the C-curve. Ensure that the C-curve is large enough so it fits snugly -- but without any kind of pinching or pain -- around the back of the child's neck.
-
-
3
Duct tape the two bolts -- point-side in -- to the serifs on the ends of the wire.
-
4
Cut two holes on either side of the turtleneck's neck. Fit the two bolts through, so the wire curve comes around the back of the child's neck.
-
5
Dress the child in the turtleneck. Stuff its shoulders with shoulder pads. Sew in place, if desired.
-
6
Dress the child in the black pants and the sneakers. Fit the long tissue boxes over his shoes, and fill in the empty space with small rocks to create a heavy gait. Do not use so many rocks that it is difficult to walk. Duct tape the boxes in place and paint both boxes -- as well as the tape -- black. Let dry.
-
7
Mix green and white face paint until the desired sickly shade is achieved. Paint the child's face with this shade using a makeup sponge.
-
8
Mix the purple and the red paint until a bruised, bloody shade is achieved. Paint the child's eyelids, under the eyes and lips with this shade.
-
9
Measure a piece of yarn long enough to span the child's forehead. Apply a line of spirit gum across the forehead and stick the yarn to it.
-
10
Cut smaller pieces of yarn -- half an inch to an inch in length -- and place them across the longer piece of yarn to create a scar.
-
11
Apply fake blood to the yarn to achieve a fresh-wound look.
