Loading the Leopard operating system on your Macbook will enhance its features.

If you have an older version of the Mac OS X operating system on your MacBook such as Panther, you can upgrade to Leopard to take advantage of the operating system's new features. For example, the ability to turn a section of a Web page into a Dashboard widget or preview files by selecting them using the Quick Look feature. These new features can improve your productivity while working on your MacBook. To load the Leopard operating system, you need the Leopard Install DVD.

      Insert the Leopard OS X DVD into the optical drive of the MacBook. The Mac OS X Install DVD window opens.

      Double-click the "Install Mac OS X" icon on the top-right corner of the window.

      Click the "Restart" button. The Welcome screen opens.

      Click "Continue" then select "Macintosh HD" on the Select a Destination page.

      Click "Continue" and select the option that describes the type of installation you want to perform. For example, click the "Erase and Install" check box to erase your MacBook's hard drive and install a new copy of Leopard.

      Click "Continue" then click "Customize" on the Install Summary screen. The Custom Install Pane opens.

      Click the check boxes next to the additional software you want to install, such as language translations. Click "Done" and the Custom Install Pane closes.

      Click "Install" on the Install Summary screen. The installation wizard finishes installing Leopard on your MacBook. The Leopard operating system automatically boots up once the installation is complete.
