How to Add Twitter to Your Phone

Tweet while you're on the move by adding Twitter to your cellphone.

The Twitter online micro-blogging network is a convenient way to keep in touch with family, friends and co-workers. If you want to use Twitter while you're away from your computer then you might want to access the service from your cellphone. Users with smartphones can access Twitter through dedicated Twitter mobile applications or by using the device's Web browser. However, there's also a method for adding Twitter to any cellphone.

Instructions

1. Open the SMS text message application on your cellphone.

2. Create a new SMS message. Type "START" into the body of the message.

3. Type the correct country-specific Twitter code into the message address field. For example, the correct code for the United States is "40404". You can get a full list of country-specific Twitter codes from the help section on the Twitter website.

4. Send the text message. Twitter will respond to the text message within a few minutes. Open the Twitter response when you receive it.

5. Reply to the message with your Twitter username. Don't add any additional text to the username because this might prevent the sign-up process from working correctly.

6. Wait for Twitter to send another text message asking for your Twitter password. Reply to the message with your password. Type this carefully because Twitter uses case-sensitive passwords. Again, don't add any additional text to the message.

7. Wait for Twitter to send a third text message. This asks if you want to use Twitter on your cellphone. Reply to the message with the text "OK" to activate the service. You can now update Twitter from your cellphone by texting a message to the country-specific Twitter code. Twitter uses the text in the body of the message as your Twitter post, also known as a "Tweet."

Tips & Warnings

• You must have a Twitter account to add Twitter to your cellphone. You can sign-up for a free Twitter account by visiting twitter.com on your computer's Web browser.

• To receive Tweets from other users on your cellphone, enable the mobile updates option for the contacts whose updates you want to receive. You can do this by clicking the phone icon on the user's profile.
